Today we celebrated the life and works of Martin Luther King, Jr. He was a man who led many in the search for equality, hope and peace. Today is not his birthday but a day to honor the birth of his thinking...his ideologies...his hopes. He did not act alone but stood out from the crowd. He was a born leader but a human one. He had his shortcomings just like the rest of us. However, he did not let that stop his dream to step toward a world in which opportunity abounds for all people. "I Have a Dream..." are words that resonate in light of our world today.

I find it so appropriate that we celebrate this day on the eve of one of the most historical events I will ever witness in my lifetime. Whether or not you voted for Barack Obama, you must agree that tomorrow will be a day to remember. My hope is that 1.20.09 will be a day that our world shifts ever so slightly toward more open-mindedness and tolerance.

We've come a long way but we still have so far to go...

As I sit here typing, I wonder what both the King and Obama families must be feeling. An overwhelming sense of arrival? Anxious? Excited? To be the face of a historical change, can you imagine?
