Oh, the horror! Turning 30. THIRTY? Notice my look of absolute shock! Is it possible I am really that old? For years, the impending doom of 30 loomed over me, taunting me as every day passed. This milestone birthday was nearing too quickly. I was panicking! I hadn't finished my mental "Before 30 List"...in fact, barely started it in some categories! However, upon closer examination, I realized that though every item had not yet been checked, there were some items that had been added over the course of many years. I never thought I would have experienced, accomplished and lived as much as I have in the last 30 years. Now, that isn't to say that I am satiated with status quo. Oh, no! There is so much more I want to do! It did, though, make me pause for a moment and recognize where I am in my life.
The list I have is plentiful, but these are a few of the things I was determined to have acquired/accomplished by the ripe old age of 30:
- A college degree
- Steady career with a few years of experience under my belt
- A husband and a children
- My own home, decorated ala Amanda
- Great friends and family
- Traveling the globe
- A college degree from MU and a Certification in the works
- Job experience in many facets of theatre production and retail upper management
- My cat...which is no replacement for a boyfriend or a husband...but he's company nonetheless! Keep in mind that I realize this could enroll me in the Crazy Cat lady league, but it's only until the real Mr. Right strolls across my path.
- My friends' children who are beautiful, full of wonder and make Auntie Amanda feel loved!
- A nice collection of furniture, housewares and such in storage...now I just need the abode!
- Great family and friends~all I can say is I am so very lucky.
- Some traveling to whet my appetite for more. My trip to Ireland last January truly ignited my interest to travel as much as possible.
- My newest venture of teaching. I love imparting knowledge and watching our future leaders in action.
- The continually developing ability to learn from mistakes, survey situations, trust my intuition and allow myself to fail.
For those of you on the cusp of 30, do not fear! It's just another year. Celebrate it and enjoy!
YAY!! You're a blogger...and a fabulous one at that too!! YAY!! I feel like I sound like Special Ed when I do that....YAY!!
ReplyDeleteI turn 30 in May, and I had resolved that I would take my 30th b-day in a better place than I took my 29th. Of course, I had my 29th in Baghdad, so it's an admittedly low bar. Still, I'm looking at New Orleans, possibly Australia. Australia's closer, but I have friends in NOLA.
ReplyDeleteLike travel? Come to Guam! You can see a tropical paradise rife with stray dogs and abandoned cars, and with more Japanese tourists than you can shake a stick at.
Honestly, I'm still single too, and I find that I'm better for it. I have a wealth of experiences I wouldn't have had if I'd settled down by 25. I say don't settle down until 40. Life spans are longer, so the rush to nest isn't as pressing as it once was. Life should be an adventure, not an appointment.
